It is within us all…
On any pleasant day, one can look up and see animals or objects in the shapes of
the clouds. I see an entire world living within the grain of wood.
My name is John Broshear. I have lived and worked in the San Francisco bay area for
most of my life.
Please… Let me share my visions and dreams with you through my art.
The idea for my style came from a dining room door. Within the grain of that door
were a wizard and his horse, both peacefully staring back at me. Inspired by their
presence I began my unique art form.
To begin my creations, I must first go exploring. I search the woods looking for
that entity, longing to emerge from the grain. Most of the wood I use has been pushed
aside because of its unusual grain or defect. There may be a nick here or a scratch
there, but it’s OK.… I see who, or what, lives within the grain. I will clean up
the wood, sand it and seal it. I then begin the adventure of bringing out the image
using oil paints. Sometimes I do a lot. Sometimes just a little. Always though, the
grain is the art… the spirit. When the picture is complete, I put a final seal on
the work to protect it. In framing the piece, more often than not, I will use distressed
molding to give that piece a rough and wild look, enhancing their uniqueness.
As you experience my world, I wish you the same thrill and excitement I get when
creating these works for you.
Welcome… to my visions… my dreams.
From the woods they come...
